Lewis and Clark Slept Here—200 Years Ago.

Believe it or not, when I started planning this trip I didn't realize it was the bicentennial year of the Lewis and Clark exploration. Just a lucky coincidence. I'm interested to see how many amateur historians I meet on the river.

My starting point on June 6, 2004 was on the Yellowstone River near the Montana Border. From there I'll floated to the Missouri River then on into Lake Sakakawea. I'm planning to spend nearly 2 weeks paddling and exploring Lake Sakakawea all the way to my one and only portage the Garrison Dam.

Once over the dam (and, no I'm not going to ride over the dam) I'll proceed down the Missouri River to Bismarck, ND for a layover with family. After a shower and a home cooked meal I'll proceed to the final destination of Mobridge, SD. My target completion date is June 26th.

Why Mobridge? Because it rhymed with Montana and the Montana to Mobridge Trip had a nice ring to the ear. Yes it's corny, but I'm traveling nearly 400 miles in a home made kayak. What do you expect?

Check out the Follow Along link and read for yourself how I'm doing.
